Ms. Cookman further served with distinction as an elementary school educator in the Mount Vernon City School District for more than 30 years. Likewise, she has been a member of several local education associations in Ohio, including the Knox County Education Association, the Ohio Teachers Association and the Ohio Retired Teachers Association. Ms. Cookman's national groups include The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International and the National Education Association.
According to Ms. Cookman, her principal responsibilities and duties have included "helping children every day, helping them through their problems and teaching them daily."
