Mr. Galasso initially earned a Bachelor of Arts in English language and literature from Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York. Since 2018, he has prospered as an author and a poet, publishing over 15 works as the owner of the Galwin Press, including "Mixed Bag: A Travelogue in Four Forms" in 2018, "Rough Cut: Thirty Years of Senryu" in 2019, "A Legacy: Thirty Years of Haiku" in 2020 and "The Year We Never Saw Coming" in 2020. Mr. Galasso has achieved much success as a freelance writer since 1973, in which capacity he participates in reading engagements for live audiences, public television and radio and manages bookings and advertising for readings.
Mr. Galasso has been a member of the California State Poetry Society, the National Writers Union (NWU), the Academy of American Poets, the British Haiku Society and Haiku Canada. He was selected as Daily Haiku Poet for June 2021 by the Mann Library at Cornell University, Ithaca, New York. Moreover, "The Year We Never Saw Coming" was selected for inclusion in the San Diego Poetry Annual in 2020. Furthermore, Mr. Galasso's work has appeared in dozens of poetry journals in addition to many newspapers and magazines.
From 1990 to 2015, Mr. Galasso made several radio and television appearances as an actor and narrator, appearing in two episodes of "Northern Exposure" as well as in "What I Saw in Iraq" as the voice of General Colin Powell. During this time, he participated in Earth Day Celebration specials, Northwest Afternoon, KOMO, and Poets West with 90.7 KSER as a featured reader. Mr. Galasso further flourished as an associate sales account manager of networking connectivity hardware for Allied Telesyn International Group at its facility in Bothell, WA from 1994 to 1998.
From 2009 to 2015, Mr. Galasso provided invaluable service as part of event staff for three major league sports teams in Seattle: the Sounders, the Mariners and the Seahawks. In this position, he trained and supervised game day staff day staff providing equipment, assuring compliance with regulations, while establishing security, and communications with command and control according to need. Likewise, Mr. Galasso was active as a liaison with management, opposing team and staff, fire, emergency medical team and Seattle police as necessary to deal with emergencies for the aforementioned teams. During these years Mr. Galasso also produced a spoken word CD and three books of poetry.
Initially writing poetry at the age of seven, Mr. Galasso attributes his success to his intuitiveness in knowing market trends and his ability to deal with the rejections often endured by authors. He also enjoys the personal connection that he experiences when reading his work to live audiences. He has cited the highlight of his career has been fulfilling all his achievements on his own without formal community support or involvement as well as the fine reviews generated by his work.
