He also found success as a project engineer for the materials disposition project with Contract Closure Project Management as well as a senior test engineer and director for Salt Waste Processing Facility at Duratek Inc./Energy Solutions. Among other roles, Mr. Willis was active as a maintenance and HVAC technician for a number of local organizations.
Aspiring to continue progressing, Mr. Willis hopes to gain credentials in project management, which he believes is possible in the coming years. A talented individual who has learned all about hard work and perseverance while in the military, he followed in the footsteps of his father, serving for more than a decade in the U.S. Navy. As a first class petty officer (E6), he scored high enough to be recruited to the nuclear power program, which enabled him to participate in commercial reactor work. Mr. Willis also completed two tours on the USS Virginia.
Mr. Willis obtained a career studies certificate in drafting, inspector/laboratory technology, surveying and civil engineering. He was likewise certified as a civil engineering technician. Mr. Willis has also earned an Associate of Science in civil engineering technology, summa cum laude, from Tidewater Community College since 1997.
As a veteran of the U.S. Military, Mr. Willis has been affiliated with the American Legion, the Disabled American Veterans, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Beirut Veterans of America. He was notably decorated with a U.S. Navy Achievement Medal by the U.S. Secretary of the Navy. Mr. Willis was additionally designated as a master training specialist and an enlisted surface warfare specialist.
