Mr. Grizzle was named Officer of the Year by the Van Buren and Decatur Police Departments in 2004 and 2021.
DECATUR, AR, July 12, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Stephen E. Grizzle has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. From a young age, Mr. Grizzle has been inspired by his father, who was a law enforcement officer, author, preacher and pilot. In light of his father's influence, he was always interested in helping others. As such, he worked as a volunteer firefighter and an emergency medical technician. After graduating from Muldrow High School in 1985, he completed basic college coursework at Westark Community College (now known as the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith) for one year before embarking on his career.
In 1996, Mr. Grizzle joined the Crawford County Sheriff's Office, where he was able to take courses in advanced field sobriety, street survival and firearms. He later became a patrol officer for the Van Buren Police Department between 1998 and 2008 and, shortly thereafter, a firearms instructor for the Department of Energy between 2008 and 2014. Returning to the Crawford County Sheriff's Office, he excelled as a patrol sergeant and sergeant over detention for two years before serving as a patrol sergeant for the Barling and Decatur Police Departments from 2017 to 2020. Today, Mr. Grizzle has flourished as chief of police of the Decatur Police Department since 2020.
In his current position, Mr. Grizzle reviews all cases to ensure all information is correct before being released to the public. He also trains new staff and ensure all current staff has up-to-date certifications. In 2004, he displayed his heroic nature in various ways. He dove into a river during a flood to save an individual whose car had driven off the road and received a certificate for Professionalism and Selflessness. He was also awarded for saving a kidnapped child in Utah, and he received the Morgan Nick Choice Award from the Governor of Arkansas.
Most recently, Mr. Grizzle was named Officer of the Year by the Van Buren and Decatur Police Departments in 2004 and 2021, respectively. Civically, he has been active with the Decatur Chamber of Commerce, and he maintains professional affiliation with the Chief's Association of the State of Arkansas and the Fraternal Order of the Police. Impressively, he aided in the commencement of the Van Buren Neighborhood Watch program in 2000.
Throughout his career, Mr. Grizzle has attributed his professional success to his upbringing, as well as his faith, honesty and integrity. Looking toward the future, Mr. Grizzle plans to continue experiencing the growth and success of his career before easing into a well-deserved retirement.
