Marquis Who's Who Honors Steven Jonas, MD, MPH, with Inclusion in Who's Who in the World

Dr. Jonas celebrates nearly 60 years in public health and education.

Dr. Jonas was originally drawn to pursue his career path due to the influence of his father, a college professor who taught him to think historically and sparked his interest in political science. He went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts from Columbia College and later, a Doctor of Medicine from Harvard University. Following this accomplishment, he completed a rotating internship at Lenox Hospital, a residency in preventive medicine and public health with the New York City Department of Health, and postdoctoral courses in the Department of Social Administration of the London School of Economics. Dr. Jonas also holds a Master of Public Health from Yale University and a Master of Science in health management from New York University. Eminently qualified in his field, he is certified by the American Board of Preventive Medicine.

Dr. Jonas began his career with the New York City Department of Health, and has since held various educational positions at a variety of medical institutions. To wit, he has contributed his services at the Morrisania City Hospital, the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and the Stony Brook University Renaissance School of Medicine. After more than 45 years of excellence in his chosen field, he retired from his full-time responsibilities, and was bestowed with the title of professor emeritus at Stony Brook University.

In addition to his primary professional duties, Dr. Jonas also served as an adjunct professor at Touro College School of Law, the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, and the Columbia University School of Architecture. He also previously served on the New York State Board of Medicine. As a respected voice in his field, he regularly contributes to such publications as Reader Supported News/Writing for Godot, FromtheGMan, and BuzzFlash.com. He is also a Trusted Author for OPEdNews. He was the editor-in-chief of the American Medical Athletic Association Quarterly, 2002-15. Likewise, Dr. Jonas has authored/edited a number of textbooks including Health Care Delivery in the United States, and a number of books on health and wellness and regular exercise, including the first book for beginners in the sport of triathlon, Triathloning for Ordinary Mortals. On politics, in 2015 he published the third version of "The 15% Solution: How the Republican Religious Right Took Control of the U.S. 1981-2022: A Futuristic Novel."

Dr. Jonas won the Book of the Year Award from the American Journal of Nursing in 1982, and was named as the Best Author of the Year in New York by Global 100 in 2019. In addition, he received a Certificate of Appreciation for Service as the editor-in-chief from the American Medical Athletics Association Journal, the Outstanding Service Recognition Award from United University Professions, the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Yale School of Public Health, the Duncan Clark Award for Lifetime Achievement from the Association of Prevention Teaching and Research, and the Founder's Medal from the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine at the University of North Texas.

Throughout his career, Dr. Jonas has maintained his affiliation with a number of professional organizations, including the New York Academy of Medicine, the American College of Preventive Medicine, the American Public Health Association, the New York Academy of Science, the Royal Society of Medicine, the American Medical Association and Phi Beta Kappa. Moreover, he has benefited richly from the tutelage of several mentors, including: his high school teacher, Sherwood Trask, Dr. Edward K. Barsky, Professor David Rutstein at Harvard Medical School, Reader Brian Abel-Smith at the London School of Economics, Professor E. Richard Weinerman at the Yale School of Public Health, his long-time publisher, Ursula Springer, PhD, and most of all his father, Prof. Harold J. Jonas. Over the years, Dr. Jonas has attributed his professional success to his parents, his education, and his natural skills as a writer. In the coming years, he plans to continue writing and sharing his opinions of current events.
