For nearly 40 years, Dr. Vinod has found success as a professor of economics at Fordham University. Born and raised in India, he initially obtained a Bachelor of Commerce from the Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce in 1959 and a Master of Arts from Delhi University in 1961. Upon immigrating to the United States in 1962, he earned a Doctor of Philosophy at Harvard University in 1966. Thereafter, he completed a fellowship at the Delhi School of Economics. Dr. Vinod subsequently began his career as an assistant professor at California State University, Fullerton in 1965, and a mathematics consultant at Princeton University from 1966 to 1969. From 1969 to 1982, he was a member of the technical staff at Bell Laboratories in New Jersey, and an expert witness and consultant for Bell Laboratories from 1980 to 1982. Since 1982, he has served as a professor of economics at Fordham University.
Throughout the course of his career, Dr. Vinod has served as the president of the Maharashtra Foundation and the Society of Indian Academics in America. He has authored such works as the "Handbook of Statistics Volumes 41 & 42," the "Handbook of Hindu Economics and Business," "Advances in Social Science Research using R," "Lecture Notes in Statistics," "Hands-on Intermediate Econometrics Using R" and "Preparing for the Worst: Incorporating Downside Risk in Stock Market Investments." Furthermore, Dr. Vinod has contributed to over 160 articles in top scholarly journals, as well as many books in econometrics, statistics and regulation.
Though his career has been suffused with highlights, Dr. Vinod is credited with creating an algorithm to solve problems within integer programming. Additionally, he is gratified to have pioneered a maximum entropy bootstrap method used for the assumption of normal distribution. Moreover, Dr. Vinod is proud of his research on ridge regression, which has been featured in Significance Magazine, as well as the American Statistical Association and the Royal Statistical Society in the United Kingdom.
To remain aware with advancements in the field, Dr. Vinod has maintained his affiliations with the American Economic Association, the American Statistical Association and the Indian Econometric Society, where she served as vice president in 1990. Moreover, he is recognized as a fellow of both Harvard University and IBM.
