For over 50 years, Dr. Israili has been recognized as a staple on the campus of Emory University. He currently holds the positions of an associate professor of medicine. Dr. Israili began his tenure at Emory University as an assistant professor of medicine and chemistry from 1970 to 1975.
Dr. Israili immigrated to the United States from India in 1961, having previously obtained a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science from Aligarh Muslim University in 1951 and 1953, respectively. He was honored as a merit scholar in 1953 and a senior research scholar from 1954 to 1957. During this time, he established himself as a research associate and junior science officer for the Atomic Energy Commission of India from 1957 to 1961. In this capacity, Dr. Israili is proud to have received a gold medal for his master's level coursework.
Dr. Israili became involved in the medical field due to the influence of his father, who was a practitioner of Indian medicine. Though he came to Kansas to study nuclear engineering, he ultimately decided to follow the example of his father, and subsequently earned a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Kansas in 1968. Between 1968 and 1969, Dr. Israili maintained his involvement with the University of Kansas as a research associate, after which he joined the Alza Corporation as a senior research chemist.
Dr. Israili is a regular contributor to many international professional journals, publications and chapters of books. Notably, he was an editor for Ethnicity and Disease and an associate editor of Drug Metabolism Reviews. He is an associate editor of the Venezuelan Journal of Hypertension and Revista Latinoamericana de Hipertension. In addition, Dr. Israili is a member of the scientific staff at Grady Hospital and an adjunct professor of chemistry at Georgia Perimeter College.
In addition to his professional career, Dr. Israili is a member of various organizations. He primarily contributes to the American Society of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, the American Society of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics and the Society of Experimental Biology and Medicine. Likewise, beginning in 2000, Dr. Israili has served as the president of the Interamerican Society of Clinical Pharmaceutical Therapists.
Dr. Israili was a recipient of the Asia Foundation Award in 1962. For his contributions to the field, he was bestowed with grants from Merck, Sharpe & Dohm, Veterans Affairs, American Heart Association, National Institute of Aging, National Cancer Society, National Institute of Health, Emory University, etc. Additionally, he is a past recipient of the Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Israili attributes his success to his parents, who instilled within him the virtue of helping others.
