SANTA FE, NM, July 16, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to honor Karen Ann Hargreaves-Fitzsimmons with inclusion in Who's Who in the World. An accomplished listee, Ms. Hargreaves-Fitzsimmons celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
When Ms. Hargreaves-Fitzsimmons first picked up a crayon at 3 years old, her mother began encouraging her artistic talents by buying her an easel and a chalkboard. Her mother always ensured she has the supplies she needed, and later in life, Ms. Hargreaves-Fitzsimmons was also supported by her many art teachers in the Detroit School System. In college, she took many art classes. However, she ultimately decided not to pursue the field professionally. She went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology from Oakland University in 1967 and a Master of Arts in guidance and counseling from the University of Michigan in 1971.
Ms. Hargreaves-Fitzsimmons worked as a counselor for the Michigan State Employment Commission in Detroit for several years while still painting and practicing art in her spare time. She also exhibited her work in various group and solo shows over the years, exemplifying her innate talent in the artistic arena. Shortly thereafter, she and her husband moved to Japan, where she was introduced to various Japanese styles of painting. Today, Ms. Hargreaves-Fitzsimmons focuses on her art full-time as an art director, painter and illustrator with Katydid Productions in Santa Fe, New Mexico, joining the organization in 1973. Concurrently, she served as an instructor at the Center for Creative Studies in Detroit, Corpus Christi College through the University of Oxford in England and Oakland University in Michigan.
In her current positions, Ms. Hargreaves-Fitzsimmons has published numerous poets from a multitude of diverse backgrounds. She has worked with poets and writers from England, the Netherlands and France. Throughout her career, she has been especially proud to have been exposed to the Sumi-e ink painting technique in Japan, which she continues to practice and teach today, and has been honored to receive recognition for her artwork in Tokyo. To wit, she has exhibited her work at the USIS American Cultural Center Gallery, the Komaba Garden Gallery, the Genkan Gallery, the Tokyodo Bunka Salon, the Hakumon International Festival of Arts and the American Cultural Center, among myriad other galleries and institutions between 1974 and 2000.
Over the course of the past 40-plus years, Ms. Hargreaves-Fitzsimmons has also illustrated book designs and cover art for more than 40 books on American, European, Japanese and Bengali prose and poetry. She has also been grateful to connect with many other talented artists in her career.
