Dr. Hofland enjoyed a fulfilling career in aerospace research & development that spanned more than four decades. As the former head, Laser Physics Dept., and Systems Director in the Space-Based Surveillance Division of the Aerospace Corporation, it was his duty to serve as part of the technical arm for the DOD and NASA by developing new technologies that could be used in space. As a commitment to his field, Dr. Hofland specializes in high-power laser development, laser radar, electro-optical imaging system design and test, missile detection, tracking, and interception, global warming and green energy, such as solar and wind. During his career, Dr. Hofland received numerous commendations, patents, and published more than 90 papers in journals, books and meeting proceedings.
Dr. Hofland's exemplary performance in the field was born of his academic journey. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and subsequently attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he received a Master of Science degree. In 1969, Dr. Hofland would further his education and complete a Doctor of Philosophy at the latter institution with the full support from a NASA Fellowship.
A devoted advocate on behalf of foster and orphan children, Dr. Hofland has served in the Superior Court as a the Court Appointed Special Advocate, as well as a mentor for abused, abandoned and neglected children in Royal Family Kids, an organization dedicated to a world free of family-induced childhood trauma. His achievements have largely been driven by a desire to understand how everything works on a structural level, and this determination has allowed him to succeed in his professional career and in his work with needy children. In the future, Dr. Hofland wishes to (a) perform classical piano music and jazz in various venues, (having studied to be a concert pianist), and (b) visit the most beautiful places in the world with his wife and family.
