GARNER, NC, July 19, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Maggie Peterson Thomas has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. After over 45 years in information technology (IT), Mrs. Thomas recently retired as IT director from the NC Department of Information Technology. During her IT career, she worked in a variety of IT roles for the insurance industry, utility industry, consulting services, and state government. Some of the other positions that Mrs. Thomas held in IT were Project Management Officer, Applications Development Manager, and technical lead/specialist.
In retirement, Mrs. Thomas serves as a volunteer with local health organizations to register individuals for the COVID-19 vaccination. As a parishioner at her local church, she additionally hosts prayer meeting on an ongoing basis as well. To better support her professional goals, Mrs. Thomas is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineer (IEEE) and the National Association of Female Executives.
After graduating as the valedictorian of her high school class, Mrs. Thomas earned a Bachelor of Science in mathematics, summa cum laude, at Johnson C. Smith University. She is certified as a high school mathematics teacher in North Carolina and New Jersey; for over two years, she worked as a mathematics college instructor at Shaw University. Mrs. Thomas plans to continue her post-graduate education in the near future; also, she plans to provide IT consulting services via her consulting company, for which she serves as president.
Originally, Mrs. Thomas had planned on becoming a high school mathematics teacher. After enrolling in several computer courses, she fell in love with the intricacies of the field and discovered that many companies at the time were recruiting individuals with strong analytical skills to become computer experts. With over 45 years in IT, Mrs. Thomas credits her parents for much of her success, both of which emphasized the importance of a good education and strong work ethics.

For over 25 years, she also provided IT support for the NC Department of Motor Vehicles with vehicle registration, titling, and liability insurance services. Honoring her expertise, Mrs. Thomas has been presented awards for outstanding services to clients.
