Now retired, Sister Borrello found success as a professor of sociology and anthropology at Suffolk Community County College for nearly 50 years. Affiliated with St. John Chrysostom & St. Rita of Cascia, she is an active member of the Dominican Sisters of Our Lady of the Rosary in Sparkill, New York. Notably, Sister Borrello completed sociological research in botanica-spiritualism in New York in 1976.
Prior to embarking upon her professional path, Sister Borrello pursued an education at Fordham University, from which she obtained a Bachelor of Science in education in 1966. She continued her academic efforts at St. John's University, earning a Master of Arts in arts in 1970 and a Master of Arts in philosophy in 1980, respectively. Appointed as a member of Sparkill Community Groups, Sister Borrello has contributed to Long Island Cares and served on academic committees at Suffolk County Community College, where she also coordinated campus blood drives, scholarship fundraisers and a food pantry.
As a further testament to her success and longevity in the field of higher education and community service, Sister Borrello was presented with an award from the March of Dimes in 1994, an Apple Award for Service in 2009, a Member of the Year Award from Suffolk County, a 30-Year Service Award from Suffolk County Community College in 2002 and a 35-Year Service Award from the same academic institution in 2007. Featured in the Natural History Magazine in 1976, the New York Times and the Philadelphia Inquirer , the Giuseppe A. Nigro Lodge honored her in relationship to her community accomplishments and they also contributed to endowment fund in her name . Moreover, Sister Borrello received recognition for service from the United States Teachers Union in 2012 and was among the top five candidates of the Everyday Hero Award in 2012.
