Specializing in commercial litigation and trusts and estates law litigation, he is a prominent trial attorney who has been practicing for more than 50 years. Recently concluding his tenure as a managing partner of Murphy, Bartol & O'Brien LLP, in Mineola, he also garnered a stellar reputation as a senior associate attorney at Gehrig, Ritter, Coffey et. al. in Hempstead, New York from 1971 to 1978. Mr. Bartol previously worked as a tax specialist in 1970 while being an accountant with Arthur Anderson & Company in New York City.
As an extension of his legal career, Mr. Bartol was instrumental as a member of the committee for civil litigation and a member of the merit selection committee for magistrate judges of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York. He was additionally elected as the vice president of the Federal Bar Association's Second Circuit, is presently elected national director, and a member with the character and fitness committee of the appellate division of the New York State Courts. Moreover, Mr. Bartol has served on the board of directors of the Long Island Children's Museum, a past president and founder of the Community Action Council at Syosset Community Hospital, a former secretary and member of the parish council and special school committee of Saint Edward Roman Catholic Church in Syosset and a former vice chairman of the Nassau County Republican Committee.
Active as a public servant for decades, Mr. Bartol joined the Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County shortly after graduating from law school and now serves as its Presiding Trustee. Inspired to volunteer at the non-profit organization after meeting two couples that had children with cerebral palsy, it continues to thrive, offering an array of medical, therapeutic, and rehabilitation services, residential life services, adult day programs, and The Children's Learning Center to meet the needs of families. To prepare for his career, Mr. Bartol earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting and finance at Fordham University in 1967 and a law degree at Villanova University in Pennsylvania in 1970. Admitted to federal practice, he has represented cases before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York, the Supreme Court of the United States, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and the U.S. Tax Court. A member of the American Bar Association and the Federal Bar Association, Mr. Bartol was affiliated with the Nassau County Bar Association as a member of the professional ethics committee, the Nassau Lawyers Association of Long Island as a corresponding secretary, recording secretary and chairman, and the Nassau Lawyers Association as a past president.
In 1993, Mr. Bartol was recognized as the Man of the Year by the Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County.
