The mission of the organization is to assess and increase the value and return on investment (ROI) of enterprise knowledge via various business management techniques and by properly aligning knowledge resources to support enterprise strategies.
A renowned thought leader, Mr. Powell has worked for several large corporations, including KPMG as a senior consultant and PricewaterhouseCoopers as a manager of national marketing. He was also active in several board directorship roles and lent his expertise to several start-up companies. Prior to earning his MBA, Mr. Powell gained experience in the nonprofit sector and with several government agencies, where he specialized in low-income families and children's health and development. These positions included an appointment as an outreach manager for the State of Connecticut, as a contracts and systems analyst for the State of New Jersey, and as a budget analyst for the State of New York. Early on, Mr. Powell worked in mental health as a field psychologist for LEAP Inc.
As an extension of his work, Mr. Powell became a faculty member at Columbia University and Palmer School/Long Island University teaching graduate level courses. He is presently a senior fellow at the Marketing and Communications Center and The Conference Board, a fellow of the Strategic and Competitive Intelligence Professionals, and a founding member and former chair of the Council of Competitive Intelligence Fellows. Furthermore, Mr. Powell oversees the Yale College Class of 1971 website, Yale71.org, which he created and which has enabled him to reach out to former class members in a networking capacity.
Among his many accomplishments, Mr. Powell developed the Knowledge Value Chain® (KVC), a framework for increasing ROI through the transformation of data into knowledge and intelligence for successful and sustainable operating results. The KVC strategy is applied at the Knowledge Agency in various ways and has since been expounded upon at presentations worldwide. As a result of its success, Mr. Powell authored "The Knowledge Value Chain® Handbook" in 2014 to reach more individuals about his unique methodology. He has also authored several other books throughout his career and has contributed numerous articles in his field. His most recent book is "The Value of Knowledge: The Economics of Enterprise Knowledge and Intelligence" in 2020.
A graduate of the prestigious Yale University, Mr. Powell earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1971, followed by a Master of Business Administration in 1979. He also completed graduate coursework in business at the New York University Stern School and in psychology at The New School. Among Mr. Powell's awards and recognitions, he was honored by the Society of Intelligence Professionals with a Catalyst Award in 1993 and the Fellows Award in 1999. He was also awarded the Distinguished Service Award from the Association of Yale Alumni.
