NEW YORK, NY, July 21, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Stuart Alan Shorenstein has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Mr. Shorenstein earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Duke University in 1968 and a J.D. from New York University School of Law, where he was named a University Scholar. For many years, Stuart excelled as communications regulatory counsel representing clients before the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). While practicing law in New York City and in Washington, DC, Mr. Shorenstein taught communications law as an adjunct professor at Hofstra University's Maurice E. Deane School of Law and established the first chapter of the Federal Communications Bar Association outside of Washington, DC. He was named to the Bar Association's executive committee and received its Distinguished Service Award.
Since 2009, Mr. Shorenstein has served as the co-founder and a member of Cozen O'Connor Public Strategies, a bipartisan government relations firm which helps businesses and non-profit organizations present their positions before government agencies and pursue changes in government policies. As a former member of several governmental transition teams, he regularly provides strategic advice to members of Congress, governors and aspiring candidates for public office. Additionally, Mr. Shorenstein has led negotiations on the purchase or sale of a wide range of companies in the communications industry, published numerous articles and has lectured at many national conventions.
In 2020 and 2021, Mr. Shorenstein was recognized by City & State New York's Law Power 100 list for his impact on New York's political and government spheres. Stuart also serves on the Board of Directors of the Citizens Crime Commission of New York, and he received the Commission's Distinguished Service Award in 2017. He also is Secretary and General Counsel of the International Radio and Television Society Foundation. Throughout his career he has been involved in a myriad of large transactional matters and significant court cases. Mr. Shorenstein is particularly proud to have directly negotiated with the New York Attorney General a settlement in a high profile investigation of the Supplements Industry. In 2019, in a seminal case on the First Amendment and the state actor doctrine, Stuart quarterbacked the Cozen O'Connor team that successfully petitioned the Supreme Court which granted a complete victory to a long-time communications client of Mr. Shorenstein's, holding that privately owned companies are not subject to strictures of the First Amendment. The Court's decision already has had wide-ranging implications in First Amendment and media law, including with respect to claims involving the editorial discretion of social media platforms.
Mr. Shorenstein is a shareholder of Cozen O'Connor, an Am Law 100 firm, and he Chairs the New York Public Strategies Practice Group. He is married to Janice Weinman Shorenstein and has one daughter, Marissa Shorenstein.
