Some of Mr. Sullivan's published collections have been on display at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum, the Wadsworth Atheneum, and other renowned museums and galleries
JEFFERSON, NY, July 23, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Jim Sullivan with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Sullivan celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Sullivan enjoyed a tenured position at Bard College at Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, for nearly 30 years. Hired as a professor of art in 1966, he was grateful for having had such an inspiring and rewarding career teaching and mentoring students. Mr. Sullivan was notably named professor emeritus in 1995.
As much as he was invested in the classroom, Mr. Sullivan also had the opportunity to lecture, speaking frequently before numerous groups at colleges across the nation on various art related topics. He also spent decades mastering his artwork. Specializing in drawing and painting, his realistic landscapes include mountainsides, meadows, glacier fields and other mesmerizing pieces. He also developed a large portfolio of tree drawings and fairytale and fire paintings.
Some of Mr. Sullivan's most impressionable work included creating dome-shaped stone building structures without cement, some of which are approximately 10-feet in height. He has also been included in numerous solo exhibitions throughout New York, Florida, Chicago, and other locations across the country, as well as abroad in Germany. Likewise, he was featured in several group exhibitions in parts of New York, Florida and Arkansas. Furthermore, some of Mr. Sullivan's published collections have been on display at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum, the Wadsworth Atheneum, and other renowned museums and galleries. More recently, he was a featured artist at The National Gallery in North Carolina in 2017. Today, much of Mr. Sullivan's artwork is devoted to saving the trees. He sold several of his tree drawings to a winery in California and one to the Little Rock Art Center in support of his cause. Civically, Mr. Sullivan was involved as a juror for the Fulbright fellowship program during the 1990s. Today, he is active on the board of directors of the Schoharie Land Trust, a nonprofit land preservation organization in Schoharie County, New York.
Drawing and painting since he was a young boy, Mr. Sullivan's talent continued to grow. After high school, he spent one year abroad in Rome, where he participated in the European Honors Program between 1960 and 1961. Returning to the U.S., he acquired a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the Rhode Island School of Design in 1961. Shortly thereafter, Mr. Sullivan completed postgraduate coursework at Stanford University between 1962 and 1963.
Mr. Sullivan has received several awards, grants and fellowships throughout the years. Among them, he was honored with the Hinda and Richard Rosenthal Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 1973, received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts in 1982 and, early on, was a Fulbright Fellow between 1961 and 1962. A celebrated Marquis listee, Mr. Sullivan has been showcased in close to 40 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in the West and Who's Who in the World.
