GRASS VALLEY, CA, July 23, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Felicia Schaps-Tracy has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Ms. Schaps-Tracy grew up on a ranch that was purchased by her parents during the war years in 1942. They lived very simply and were primarily self-sufficient with their own fruit, vegetable garden, horses, dairy, chickens, and home raised meat. She attended a one-room country school. Her parents both had an excellent education and were well traveled, so Ms. Schaps-Tracy's life was rich in ideas, not money. Both parents worked at home until Ms. Schaps-Tracy attended Scripps College, when her mother began teaching at the County Juvenile Hall School to help finance Ms. Schaps-Tracy's education. Her senior thesis at Scripps, "The Race Horse in Art" was published in the Thoroughbred of California magazine for six issues.
During Ms. Schaps-Tracy's elementary and high school years, she became involved in 4-H Club work, and in time had a herd of over twenty registered Jersey cattle which she showed, milked, and sold to help pay her college expenses. Honored as the State Girls Leadership winner, she attended the National 4-H Congress in Chicago, and became one of four California State Diamond Stars. She then had the opportunity to meet heads of state and Supreme Court Justice Warren in Washington, D.C.
Ms. Schaps-Tracy then received a Master's Degree in Education from Stanford University, and was selected to be a delegate of the International Farm Youth Exchange Program going to rural Argentina for six months. This was before the Peace Corps, and emphasized President Eisenhower's People to People program.
After her marriage, Ms. Schaps-Tracy taught in both public and private schools, primarily in her major field of art. Their family was involved with private boarding schools for twenty years, the final ten at the Ojai Valley School campuses, from 3rd through 12th grades. There Ms. Schaps-Tracy co-directed the Horse Program, a part of the athletic and camping programs. Her background with professional horsemen parents, riding all of her life, showing, and being a member of the first 4-H Horse project in Northern California helped prepare her. They used the Certified Horsemanship Program curriculum, and became instructors of CHA as well, as Ms. Schaps-Tracy later served as a CHA Clinic Instructor at the national level and presented a program on Careers in the Horse Industry at the Western States Horse Expo. While at OVS, they participated in the newly formed Interscholastic Equestrian League with their students, competed at many horse shows and eventing competitions, and took horse pack trips into the wilderness area.
In 1986, she returned to her Emigrant Springs Ranch to assist her father with his thoroughbred breeding farm. Again, Ms. Schaps-Tracy worked as a substitute teacher, prior to becoming the County Farm Bureau Secretary/Manager. She then began teaching riding and horsemanship at home, founding Emigrant Springs Horsemanship, which is still active after nearly 35 years. She also served as a volunteer riding instructor for up to 40 members for the Northern Mines Pony Club, which is affiliated with the United States Pony Clubs, for eleven years. She also helped lead workshops at their national meetings. For seven years she was a columnist for the local newspaper on equestrian events. As a member and accredited riding instructor with the American Riding Instructor Association, their magazine featured a peer profile of her work in 2016.
Throughout the years, Ms. Schaps-Tracy has been active with the Scripps College Alumnae Association, serving as a local chapter chairman and being a member of the Fine Arts Foundation Board. While at the Webb School for boys, she taught a co-curricular class in cooking. She is a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and serves as a Commissioner for the Nevada County Historical Landmarks Commission. She continues to support their local County Fair and 4-H and FFA programs.
On a personal level, she has become "custodian" of her family libraries and art collection, and does genealogy research. She keeps a productive vegetable garden, manages the ranch property, and cares for her husband. They are blessed with a wonderful and supportive family.
