JACKSON, MS, July 26, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Carlene Myers Scanlon with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mrs. Scanlon celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. Mrs. Scanlon was a successful teacher and counselor for more than 60 years. Drawing inspiration from her mother, who was also a school teacher, she graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1959 with a Bachelor of Arts in English, followed immediately by a Master of Arts in English in 1960. She began her teaching career in English in the fall of 1960 for the Jackson Public Schools in Mississippi. Later she taught at Saint Andrew's' Episcopal School and served as a substitute teacher at Jackson Preparatory School.
In 1981, Mrs. Scanlon went in a different direction. She received a Masters of Education in Guidance and Community Counseling With Distinction from Mississippi College. She and a fellow educator established their practice called Academic and Career Research. She became a Licensed Professional Counselor and later earned the certification of National Certified Counselor, followed by that of National Board Certified Career Counselor. As an addendum to her counseling and aptitude testing, she added the Educational Testing Methods, Inc. program of test preparation to her practice. She was a member of the Mississippi Counseling Association and the American Counseling Association.
She was involved in her community in the Jr. League of Jackson in holding many board-level positions and then becoming President. She also served on the Board of the Jackson Symphony League in many vice-president levels. She supports the Gallery Guild, an arm of the Mississippi Art Association. She was co-editor of the Jr. League's cookbook, Southern Sideboards, which was named to Southern Living's Hall of Fame. She was involved with the development of the Mississippi Children's Museum and became a supporting Partner.
Other involvements included past president of Hinds County Lawyers Wives, past president of Chi Omega Alumni Association, and Guild leader in her church. She and her attorney husband, who was President of the Mississippi Bar, enjoyed attending state and American Bar Association functions. They both became Life Masters in the Jackson Bridge Association. They both would say that their greatest accomplishment in life was having their four children.
