Dr. James enjoys a diverse career split between teaching, religious services and politics. Currently active as a professor of Christian education at Emmanuel's Bible College, he is also a founding chancellor on campus. Additionally, he teaches at First Born Seminary and Training School in Waycross, Georgia, and is a professor of sociology at Coastal Pine Technical College. Previously, Dr. James enjoyed an appointment at Truth Bible College as an adjunct professor and Waycross High School, where he attended school as a social studies educator and assistant principal.
Besides his educational commitments, Dr. James, who became a licensed Gospel minister in 1980, has long been affiliated with Emmanuel's International Cathedral of the Holy Spirit as a pastor and bishop since 1998. He has served as the pastor of two churches during his lengthy tenure in ministry. Among Dr. James' many other initiatives, he is the founder and proprietor of the Bishop's Chamber Christian Counseling Center in Waycross. This organization provides various services, including individual and group counseling and pre-marital, marital, and post-marital counseling. He is also the president of STEP Up, a prevention workgroup, and is a court appointed special advocate for foster children through Action Pact.
Additionally, Dr. James was recently honored as the newly elected mayor of Waycross, receiving the oath of office in January 2020. The role came on the heels of several individuals encouraging him to consider the position, since they felt it would be a wonderful platform for him. Overseeing meetings, creating reports and other tasks, Dr. James enjoys listening and responding to the needs of his constituents.
A talented writer, Dr. James has authored three best-selling books. His first book, "Trusting God to Support Your Needs: Perspectives on Exercising Your Faith," was released in 2003. He subsequently wrote "Leader, Can You Stand the Test?" in 2004 and "Just Because God Said It: A Journal of Prophetic Predictions and Pronouncements" in 2010. In the coming years, Dr. James aspires to serve as a sociologist to serve his community better. He is presently working on a pilot program for job acquisition skills, teaching young people how to prepare themselves for future careers and thrive in their respective fields.
Dr. James is a member of several civic organizations, including the Kiwanis Club and the Exchange Club of Waycross. He is also a member of Toastmasters International, where he is presently a District 14 program quality trainer and a Jonesboro Toastmasters Club coach. Likewise, he is a former area H82 select-distinguished area director and a former Swamp Talk Toastmasters charter president. Furthermore, he serves on the board of his local chapter of the Salvation Army and on the board of directors of Ware County Children's Initiative. Moreover, Dr. James recently accepted the position of a regional board director for the Department of Health in 2020, which is a three-year commitment.
Highly educated, after graduating as an honor student at Waycross High School Dr. James was accepted to Troy University, where he received a Bachelor of Science in education in 1988. Continuing his studies, he completed a Master of Education in secondary education and teaching at Valdosta State University in 1993, followed by a Doctor of Education in Christian education at Truth Bible College in 1999. In recognition of Dr. James' contributions to the community, he received a Jacks Williams Community Service Award from the Waycross-Ware County Chamber of Commerce, a Distinguished Toastmasters Award, a Distinguished Kiwanian Award and, among others, a Ted Harris Human and Spiritual Values Award from the Kiwanis Club of Waycross.
