After obtaining an Associate of Science in nursing from Eastern Kentucky University, Ms. Dixon began her career as a registered nurse with Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital. From 2000 to 2005, she served in multiple units of the aforementioned hospital while earning a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Eastern Kentucky University. Ms. Dixon was subsequently appointed as a diabetes coordinator and educator for the Lake Cumberland District Health Department, through which she provided diabetes education to up to 100 individuals every month for three years.
Throughout the following decade, Ms. Dixon found tremendous success as a senior diabetes clinical manager for Medtronic Inc. and a master diabetes educator for Novo Nordisk Inc. Since 2020, she has continued to thrive as a biometric screening supervisor and diabetes educator for the Lake Cumberland District Health Department. In addition to educating patients about managing diabetes, Ms. Dixon supervises a team of 10 and helps monitor the health of state employees with regular screenings.
Ms. Dixon originally pursued a career in diabetes education because of her family's history with the aforementioned disease; both of her grandmothers had Type 1 diabetes, and her daughter was diagnosed as a diabetic when she was 18 years old. Her vast knowledge of diabetes has allowed her daughter to successfully manage the disease throughout young adulthood. Though she intends to retire within the near future, Ms. Dixon also intends to increase her involvement with a number of diabetes-related organizations such as the American Association of Diabetes Educators, the American Diabetes Association and the American Red Cross.
