Florence Victoria Etefia Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Ms. Etefia was recognized by the Business and Professional Women's Clubs of Pontiac for being the first African American female psychologist to work for the Pontiac School District.

An accomplished listee, Ms. Etefia celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. Ms. Etefia is a retired school psychologist and teacher who spent her entire career in the Michigan Public School System. For the first 12 years of her career, she excelled at teaching special and regular education students and serving as the department head for the Pontiac School District. Ready for a new challenge, she transitioned into becoming a school psychologist for the school and community psychology program for many more years until 2006.

Lending her expertise as a teacher consultant during her career, Ms. Etefia was also a K-12 and adult tutor. Additionally, she had the opportunity to present at numerous conferences through the Learning Disability Association and was active by conducting numerous workshops for the benefit of the teachers within her district.

Ms. Etefia was a parishioner and volunteer of the Southside Church of God. A well-known leader in her community, she was formerly active with the North Star Theater as a theater group member, where she was known for designing sets and creating artwork for the plays. She served as president of the organization for one year, as well.

Initially inspired to pursue a career that would enable her to work with students and her community at large, Ms. Etefia wanted to make a difference. After high school, she was accepted to Michigan State University and earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1968. Continuing her studies, she received a Master of Arts in teaching, with a concentration in reading, at Oakland University in 1972, followed by a Specialist in Education degree and Master of Arts at Wayne State University in 1977 and 1987, respectively. Ms. Etefia is a certified teacher of the mentally impaired and learning disabled, is a certified teacher of K-8 general education and psychology, and a certified special education supervisor in the State of Michigan.

To further advance her career in education, Ms. Etefia has been a member of several professional organizations, including the National Education Association and the Michigan Education Association. She was also a union representative for the Pontiac Education Association. Other memberships to her credit include Delta Sigma Theta, where she was named a charter member and first secretary of the Pontiac alumni chapter.

Ms. Etefia was recognized by the Business and Professional Women's Clubs of Pontiac for being the first African American female psychologist to work for the Pontiac School District. A celebrated Marquis listee, she has been showcased in over 55 editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who in the World.
