Born and raised in South Korea, Dr. Bae initially obtained a Bachelor of Arts in electrical engineering from Korea University in 1975. During this time, he began his career as a manager for Whashin-Sony from 1975 to 1981. Furthermore, he has found success as an assistant manager for the Hyundai Corporation and a general manager for the LG International Corporation. For nearly a decade thereafter, he continued his career with LG Semicon, serving as the director of overseas marketing for this company from 1990 to 1997 and the president of LG Semicon America Inc. from 1997 to 2000.
Dr. Bae returned to academia to attend the executive management program at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, which he completed in 2001. Subsequently, he continued his career with LG as the executive vice president and president of the North American subsidiary of the LG Electronics mobile division from 2000 to 2004 and the executive vice president of strategy support and overseas marketing from 2004 to 2008. He found continued success as the president and managing director of the Southeast Asia region of LG Electronics Singapore Pte. Ltd. from 2008 to 2009, the executive vice president of sales and marketing of the LG Electronics Business Solution Company from 2009 to 2010, and the president and chief executive officer of LX Pantos Co. Ltd. from 2010 to 2016.
During this time, Dr. Bae earned a Master of Arts in marketing from the Graduate School of Soongsil University in 2010. He later attended the Inha University Graduate School, as part of the Korean International Trade Association, with which he completed the global logistics management program in 2011. He concluded his higher education in 2013, graduating with a PhD in marketing from the Graduate School of Soongsil University.
After departing from LG, Dr. Bae accepted a position as the vice president and a professor at Woosong Information College from 2016 to 2019. Currently, he excels as the president and chief executive officer for HMM Co. Ltd. Supplementing his professional career, he served as the chairman of the logistics committee for The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the president and chief executive officer of Hyundai Merchant Marine. Moreover, he has participated as a member of the World Shipping Council's board of directors.
Though his career has been suffused with highlights, the significant, memorable achievements in Dr. Bae's career were achieving the No. 1 market share in the CDMA mobile phone field while working at LG Electronics and the best performance under his leadership at HMM in 2020. Looking toward the future, he aims to enjoy his retirement while providing educational assistance to support small- and medium-sized companies.
