Mrs. Baker-James obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and a Master of Arts in Public Administration from the University of Virgin Islands in St. Thomas. She worked at the Schneider Regional Medical Center for twenty-two years where she assisted physicians, nurses and healthcare professionals with grants and loan opportunities, made decisions on operating problems with departmental policies, managed payroll for over 80 healthcare providers, credentialing, orientation for medical staff new hires and reviewed contracts for legal sufficiency. She also worked at Virgin Islands Department of Justice for six years. In that capacity, she served as the Territorial Risk Manger where she handled malpractice cases for the Government of the Virgin Islands.
Presently, Mrs. Baker-James is the thriving owner and operator of Med Cred Plus, a St. Thomas, Virgin Islands-paperwork services that includes Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS), Medicare/Medicaid, System for Award Management (SAM) registration, advertising, bookkeeping, data entry, documentation management, medical license/malpractice insurance, translation, scanning, shredding and other related services. She was inspired to establish the business from her years in healthcare, when she noticed that many professionals did not have adequate time to fill out lengthy paperwork. To this end, Mrs. Baker-James' business serves healthcare professionals as well as anyone requiring paperwork assistance.
Mrs. Baker-James is a member of the International Association of Women (IAW), a Certified Public Manager (Virgin Islands) an Alumni of the University Upward Bound Program, and a board member of the Smiling Eyes Foundation. Her accolades include recognition as 2012 Employee of the Year at Schneider Regional Medical Center and 2021 Business Entrepreneurship Women and History Award. Mrs. Baker-James is a certified Yellow and Green Belt in Lean Six Sigma, a business method that relies on a collaborative team effort to improve performance by systematically removing wasteful activities and materials. She attributes her success to her mother, whose personal fortitude she strives to emulate. In the coming years, she would like to continue building upon the success of Med Cred Plus and expand outside the Virgin Islands.
