HIGHLAND PARK, IL, August 05, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Brett A. Schwartz has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. Schwartz earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in photography and a Bachelor of Arts in American history from Cornell University in 1995. He went on to study at Stanford University in 1999 where he completed his Master of Arts in communication, specializing in documentary film and video production. Mr. Schwartz entered New York's television industry in 2000, serving as co-producer with BNNtv and as a field and associate producer with Blue Moon Media, creating broadcast documentaries for networks including, MSNBC, Bravo, Court TV, and others. From there, he worked as a field producer and associate producer for CBS News until 2002. Shortly after 9/11, he was driven to further his knowledge and looked toward entering the classroom as an educator. Mr. Schwartz received a Master of Arts in social studies education from New York University in 2003 and began working as a global studies and media theory teacher at Baruch College Campus High School in New York City.

Once Mr. Schwartz entered the classroom, he remained committed to directing and producing documentary films as an independent filmmaker. Over the years, Mr. Schwartz taught at Chicago's Lane Tech High School and at Barrington High School in Barrington, Illinois. At Barrington, Schwartz launched the school's first television program which capitalized on a newly-constructed state of the art studio. In 2007, he directed and produced his first independent feature-length documentary entitled "Bassmaker". A few years later, following a move to teach film and TV production and world history at Deerfield High School in Deerfield, Illinois, Mr. Schwartz directed and produced his second independent feature "Mashed Media". The film is widely available and is distributed by Films for the Humanities and Sciences. In 2013, Mr. Schwartz formally launched StoryScreen, LLC, a production company dedicated to producing documentary short and feature length films and videos.

In 2016, Mr. Schwartz's third independent feature, "Insatiable: The Homaro Cantu Story" had its world premiere at South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas. The film went on to screen in dozens of domestic and international film festivals between 2016-2018, is currently distributed by Virgil Films, and is widely available on numerous streaming services and on DVD.

To remain abreast of changes in the field and continue to develop professionally, Mr. Schwartz aligns himself with the Chicago/Midwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, the Midwest Media Educators Association, and the Student Television Network. For his professional accomplishments, he has been honored several times for "Insatiable: The Homaro Cantu Story," which won numerous awards, including the Best Documentary Feature at the CineSol Film Festival, an Award of Excellence at the IMPACT DOCS Awards, an Award of Recognition from Hollywood International Independent Documentary Awards, a Telly Award, and an honorable mention Audience Award at the Philadelphia Film Festival. In 2018 Mr. Schwartz was nominated for a Regional Emmy Award for his short documentary "Más Que La Playa: Puerto Vallarta," which he co-directed with Mexican filmmaker Sebastián Hernández Álvarez.

Looking ahead, Mr. Schwartz continues to pursue his storytelling craft as a documentary filmmaker. He is currently directing and producing his fourth independent feature film which explores the deep-seated roots of Chicago's gun violence epidemic on its largely Black West Side. The film will be released sometime in 2022.
