LUFKIN, TX, August 05, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Carla Groff has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Ms. Groff earned a BSN from McNeese State University in 1981. She went on to earn a Master's in Health Science at Texas Wesleyan, with an anesthesia residency at Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas.
After passing her Boards, Ms. Groff gained valuable experience in the healthcare field, providing anesthesia at Baylor Hospital of Garland, as well as Garland Community Hospital. She and two additional partners started Advantage Anesthesia Assts where they practiced for 15 years, and was one of the state's first Independent CRNA groups in Texas. She was given the 5 Star Spirit Award for a life-saving event involving a mother and her triplets during childbirth.
Over the past 35 years, Ms. Groff has worked as an independent anesthesia provider for several large medical centers such as Presbyterian Hospital of Allen, St. Paul Medical Center of Dallas, NEA Medical Center in Jonesboro, Arkansas, and The Medical Center of Plano. While in Jonesboro, she helped with duties for the education of nurse anesthetist students, and became the Clinical Coordinator for Arkansas State University at NEA Baptist of Jonesboro for several years. Ms. Groff was also part of the CV Heart Team at this time as well. She has also stayed very active in her state and national organizations. From 2005-2009 she served on the Arkansas State Association of Nurse Anesthetists, where she co-chaired the PAC Committee. This committee was instrumental in fundraising to start a renewed quest in the Arkansas State legislature for Unsupervised Independent CRNA practice for which CRNAs in that state just recently won in 2021!
Ms. Groff's greatest love in anesthesia services has always been obstetrical anesthesia; a close second would be geriatric anesthesia. She states both offer a set of very challenging circumstances at any time while taking care of these patients.... and a pregnant mother is really two patients at one time. She has since now moved to southeast Texas where she's spent the last three years at Woodland Heights Medical Center in Lufkin, TX, and now at Crockett Medical Center in Crockett, TX.
"Giving anesthesia in rural America where patients have less access to healthcare" is very fulfilling because healthcare should be a basic human right! Ms. Groff has notably contributed to local food banks, St Jude's Research Hospital, and her local church's missionary works. Although her career has been filled with many highlights, she is extremely proud to live in a country where Advanced Nurse Practitioners are finally receiving recognition for their tireless nursing work with patients. During the Covid Pandemic in 2020, Ms. Groff was one of the hospital staff at Woodland Heights that helped these patients fight for their lives while endangering her and her family's life. At this time during the pandemic, All CRNAs across the country were allowed to practice unsupervised to the full extent of their license alongside of their physician counterparts by the U.S. Health and Human Services Director. Ms. Groff remains supportive of the AANA and TxANA PACs, as well as the AANA Foundation which is involved in awarding nurse anesthesiology scholarships yearly for up and coming providers.
