Mr. Goodman enjoyed a fulfilling career as an engineer at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, which spanned more than five decades. Beginning his service in 1962, he was chosen to manage efforts to engineer and design a new space suit for the Apollo Program. This began a journey at NASA, where Mr. Goodman was able to work on and contribute to the Apollo, Space Shuttle, International Space Station (ISS), and other Programs until his retirement in 2015. Mr. Goodman made significant contributions to these Programs.
Before venturing onto his vocational path, Mr. Goodman completed his undergraduate degree at Purdue University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering. In 1971, he continued his education at the University of Illinois on NASA's sponsorship, where he documented lessons-learned in Apollo crew compartment, crew equipment, and Human Factors designs. Mr. Goodman subsequently earned a Master of Science in industrial engineering, and published his thesis on these efforts as an official NASA research document.
Throughout the course of his career, Mr. Goodman has authored many articles regarding space systems, and is cited as an author or co-author on many publications, such as "Acoustics and Noise Control in Space Crew Compartments" in 2015, as well as "Crew Compartment Recommendations" in 2013. Well regarded for his indelible contributions to the field, he was bestowed with the 55-Year Service Award by NASA, as well as numerous accolades for his work on module and EVA related design and development. Despite the fact that he retired in 2015, Mr. Goodman continues to volunteer his services at NASA, where he hopes to provide further insight and expertise for years to come.
