Following coursework in special education and business communication at the University of Texas at Austin and Texas State University, as well as over 450 hours of continuing education in dependency counseling, human behavioral sciences, communication, nutrition and health and wellness issues, Ms. Bush has made an impact as a motivational speaker and life coach. She initially prospered from 1985 until 1995 as the executive director for a nonprofit gang intervention program, through which she managed over 100 volunteers, served as a lead facilitator for all youth programs and managed all aspects of budgeting, operations, grant writing and fundraising. From 1993 to 1995, Ms. Bush also excelled as a consultant to various police departments throughout Texas, which she advised on gang intervention, and served on a design team that was tasked with implementing an anti-gang task force for both the Austin and Southside San Antonio police departments.
Ms. Bush served with distinction from 1995 to 1999 as a program specialist and an assistant warden with Wackenhut Corrections, now GEO Group, a real estate investment trust that invests in private prisons and mental health facilities worldwide. Working in a 1,000-bed unit housing men and women, she co-facilitated the design and implementation of education, job skills and family development programs. Furthermore, Ms. Bush designed a parenting program that included the children of incarcerated parents, trained other employees in cultural diversity, interpersonal relationships, parenting, security and safety, and managed the American Corrections Association accreditation process.
Beginning in 1999, Ms. Bush has found success as the owner of Corefoundations and Healing Center, which is based in Lockhart. In this capacity, she facilitates assistance with trauma-based issues to the body, health seminars, staff training and retreats in human development around the state, with focus on self-awareness, self-esteem, relationships, organizational dynamics, volunteer board development and community awareness. Ms. Bush also serves as a certified life coach, assisting in setting goals, developing curriculum for stress management, and intervening in crises in the past for the Victim Services Department of the Texas Attorney General's Office. Likewise, she has actively assisted with family issues associated with Child Protective Services through Victim Services.
