FORT LEE, NJ, August 16, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Steve Sung Kwon, MD, MPH, MBA, FACS, has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. After witnessing his grandmother battle with cancer, Dr. Kwon was certain that his future lay in the medical field. He initially pursued a formal education at the University of Illinois, from which he obtained a bachelor's degree and a Doctor of Medicine together as part of the Guaranteed Professional Program Admission Initiative in Medicine. Dr. Kwon also earned a master's degree in public health and epidemiology from the University of Washington School of Public Health during his General Surgery residency. Dr. Kwon also holds a global health certificate from the University of Washington Department of Global Health.
Dr. Kwon completed his internship and residency in general surgery at the University of Washington Medical Center and a fellowship in complex general surgical oncology at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. An expert in gastrointestinal malignancies, pancreatic cancers, liver cancers, bile duct cancers, gastric cancers, endocrine tumors, melanoma, and sarcoma, he has flourished as a surgical oncologist at Holy Name Medical Center. In his capacity as a surgeon, Dr. Kwon's duties include holding office hours with patients, serving in the operating room and conducting oncological research.
In 2021, he continued his education, obtaining a Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School of Business. Dr. Kwon utilizes his expertise in business to analyze healthcare data with large database, through which he hopes to discover innovative solutions to helping people gain access to care, particularly those who are uninsured or underinsured.
Dr. Kwon is a member of the Society of Surgical Oncology, the Americas Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association and the Korean-American Medical Association. Furthermore, he is involved with the Stomach Cancer Disparity Task Force and the Evanston Presbyterian Church, and allocates time toward mentoring students at Washington Heights. As a testament to his inimitable contributions and expertise, Dr. Kwon has been presented with numerous awards, including an outstanding performance award for surgery and the Lloyd Nyhus prize for excellence in surgical research. Likewise, the American Cancer Society distinguished him as a medical honorary.
Looking toward the future, Dr. Kwon hopes to perform medical mission trips in order to provide adequate care for underserved people. Moreover, he hopes to incorporate more of his business knowledge into healthcare solutions, such as in financing and administration. Additionally, Dr. Kwon hopes to collaborate with more colleagues in the field and further enhance his knowledge going forward.
