After earning a Bachelor of Arts from Brandeis University, Ms. Weidenfeld began her career in television at WNEWTV in New York City as an associate producer on "The Alan Burke Show" and later on "The New Yorkers "and "With Mayor Lindsay", as well as a number of specials and documentaries. Ms. Weidenfeld subsequently went to NBC to be talent coordinator on "That Show with Joan Rivers," and contestant coordinator for two NBC game shows "Sale of the Century" and "Who, What and Where". She then moved to Washington DC where she produced WTTG's 2 hour daily talk/variety show "Panorama". Her objective in creating fun and informative conversational talk was the basis of "Take It From Here" (NBC), a daily half hour show which she created and produced and "On the Record" (NBC), a weekly news show she created and moderated, and "Your Personal Decorator" (Tempo cable), one of the first home network shopping shows on cable.
In 1974, she was asked to serve as Press Secretary to First Lady Betty Ford and Special Assistant to President Gerald R. Ford.
Ms. Weidenfeld has been recognized by various industry organizations and institutions, including multiple awards for Outstanding Achievement in Media from the American Association of University Women. She was honored by the Republic of San Marino, the world's oldest democratic republic, where she served as Honorary Consul General. In recognition of her service, she was knighted and inducted into the Order of St. Agatha. Ms. Weidenfeld also received an Emmy from the National Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Silver Screen Award at the International Film and Video Festival.
She was named to the President's Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, the US Holocaust Memorial Council, the Secretary of State's Advisory Commission for the Foreign Service Institute, and the C&O Canal National Historical Park Commission, which she chaired. She was a founding judge of Project Censored, a nonprofit media watchdog organization. She has also served as a board member of the Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts, the Woman's Campaign Fund, the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), the Eisenhower Foundation, and the American University in Rome, Italy. She has been a member of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, the Washington Press Club, the American Newspaper Women's Club, American Women in Radio and TV, the Cosmos Club, Consular Corps and Sigma Delta Chi. Throughout her career, she has attributed her professional success to hard work, perseverance, passion and good fortune.
While pregnant with her first child she wrote "First Lady's Lady" and established her own production company DC Productions.
She has two sons, Nicholas and Daniel and lives in Washington DC with her husband, Edward Weidenfeld. She is currently working on various media projects.
