Dr. Vasilov is a board-certified psychiatrist celebrating more than 20 years specializing in the treatment of general psychiatry, addiction and substance use disorders. He began his medical studies in Ukraine, earning a Doctor of Medicine in 1999 at Bukovins'ka Depžavna Medicna Akademija, where he developed his initial interest in addiction medicine after seeing the social and physical effects of multiple substances including alcohol. Dr. Vasilov relocated to the United States to continue his studies, and completed a residency in psychiatry at the Bergen Regional Medical Center in 2013 before earning recognition as an Addiction Psychiatry Fellow for the Albert Einstein College of Medicine during the following year.
In 2014, Dr. Vasilov worked as a consulting psychiatrist with the Wayne Behavioral Service before joining the Penn Medicine Princeton House Behavioral Health as an attending psychiatrist, where he remained in practice until 2019. While working with Penn Medicine, he accepted a second clinical position as a consulting psychiatrist for the Discovery Institute for Addictive Disorders, where he served between 2016 and 2020. Since 2020, Dr. Vasilov is a staff psychiatrist for the Hackensack Meridian Carrier Clinic in Belle Mead, New Jersey, where he continues to specialize in addiction medicine while consulting patients on recovery units for ongoing psychiatric needs.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Vasilov was a research teaching specialist at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey until 2006, and currently an assistant professor at the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine. He is extensively published in the Journal of Periodontology, the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research and Psychiatric Annals, and was bestowed with the Best Paper Award at the 2012 New Jersey Psychiatric Association Meeting. In the coming years, Dr. Vasilov hopes to publish several recent case reports and looks forward to working with more addiction medicine fellows and medical students and sharing his expertise with the next generation of practitioners.
