Dr. Schwartzman received a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from Technion–Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa in 1995 and a Master of Science in the same discipline from the California Institute of Technology in 1996. He furthered his education with a Doctor of Philosophy in statistics from Stanford University in 2006. As a research scientist, Dr. Schwartzman works with the theoretical and practical aspects of statistical signal and image analysis in a variety of scientific applications. Such analyses can be applied to biomedicine, the environment, neuroscience, genetics and cosmology.
Dr. Schwartzman gained initial success as an assistant professor in the biostatistics department of the Harvard School of Public Health from 2006 to 2013. He subsequently moved on to an associate professorship in statistics with North Carolina State University in Raleigh, and prospered as a visiting lecturer with Technion between 2012 and 2013 and again from 2015 until 2016. Since 2016, Dr. Schwartzman has flourished as an associate professor with the University of California San Diego, ascending to a full professorship in 2019.
Outside of his expertise in education, Dr. Schwartzman has also excelled as a consultant, a systems engineer from 1996 to 1998 with Rockwell International and as a senior engineer in Haifa from 1999 to 2001. There, he worked with Biosense-Webster Inc. a leader in devising equipment to treat heart rhythm disorders. In addition, Dr. Schwartzman interned with automobile manufacturer Daimler Chrysler in 2003.
In a career suffused with highlights, Dr. Schwartzman is most gratified by the opportunities that data analysis furnishes in working with scientists from a vast number of fields. Looking toward the future, he hopes to accrue enough funding to take his research in new directions.
