CUTLER BAY, FL, August 20, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Brodes H. Hartley Jr. has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Hartley earned a Bachelor of Arts from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical (A&M) University in 1956 and a Master in Hospital Administration at Baylor University in 1968. In addition, he pursued coursework in analysis, policy and planning at Florida State University between 1975 and 1977. As the president of the student government association at Florida A&M, Mr. Hartley helped initiate the boycott in 1956 that ended segregation on Tallahassee city buses.
Mr. Hartley provided superior service with the U.S. Army Service Medical Corps from 1956 to 1983, attaining the rank of a colonel. Beginning in 1956, he prospered as a field medical assistant and leader for a medical platoon in Germany and returned to the United States in 1961, whereupon he received hospital assignments in California and Washington, DC. Mr. Hartley further excelled as an executive officer in the 93rd Evacuation Hospital in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969, served as the executive officer for the Camp Zuma hospital in Japan from 1971 until 1974, and US Army Hospital, Nuremberg, Germany 1980-1982.
Since 1984, Mr. Hartley has found much success as the president and chief executive officer of Community Health of South Florida Inc. (CHI), in Miami, a federally qualified health center that provides primary care and behavioral health services to the residents of South Miami-Dade County and the Florida Keys. CHI employs over 700 doctors, nurses and a support staff in eleven centers in southern Florida, with a twelfth facility under construction. In a typical year, CHI serves nearly 80,000 patients and operates vans in areas underserved by public transportation.
Mr. Hartley has garnered many awards during his career, including a Community Service Award from Florida A&M University Alumni in 2021 and an Outstanding Migrant Health Public Service Award from the National Association of Community Health Centers, a leading national advocacy organization. He considers his career highlight to be his service in the Army, which enabled him to travel throughout Europe and Asia. In the coming years, Mr. Hartley would like to retire from daily operations at CHI and enter consulting while continuing to volunteer on behalf of his community.
