Previously, she worked for the firm as an attorney, during which time she tried more than 50 cases – both jury and bench trials. Through her work at the Duluth office, she represents injured clients and helps preserve insurance coverage. Prior to joining James A. Rice in practice, she gained valuable expertise in law as an associate with Boutwell & Associates LLC, a legal extern for the Coca-Cola Company, in the legal clerk office of the general counsel at Kennedy Space Center and NASA, as a legal intern for the southeast regional office of the Federal Trade Commission and as a law clerk for Haliczer, Pettis & Schwamm.
Before embarking on her professional journey, Ms. McGowan earned a Bachelor of Science in psychology from the University of Florida in 2007. Following this accomplishment, she received a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Emory University's School of Law in 2010. Upon graduating, she was admitted to practice law through the Georgia Bar Association, as well as all of Georgia's trial courts, the Federal District Court, the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of Georgia. Driven to remain aware of changes in the field, Ms. McGowan aligns herself with the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association.
Though her career has been suffused with highlights, Ms. McGowan is most proud of a victory in trial two years ago. Despite it not being her biggest win, it was her most rewarding. Within the next five years, Ms. McGowan intends to continue performing the same work and remain open to new opportunities in the field, such as working on more specialized and challenging cases.
