Mr. Abramowitz, of Morvillo Abramowitz Grand Iason & Anello in New York City, is an esteemed trial lawyer whose practice focuses on white collar crime and civil litigation. In his present position, he collaborates with his powerful team of attorneys to represent individuals and corporations in both state and federal courts. From government investigations, such as fraud and insider trading, to political corruption, internal investigations, securities and regulation and a wide range of civil litigation matters, Mr. Abramowitz handles every case with sensitivity and sophistication.
Mr. Abramowitz joined his firm in 1979. During his 57-year career in law, he has also served as Chief of the Criminal Division and Assistant U.S. Attorney in the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York. Among his other roles, Mr. Abramowitz garnered experience as Assistant Deputy Mayor for New York City, Special Counsel to the Select Committee on Crime for the U.S. House of Representatives and a lecturer on trial advocacy at the National Institute for Trial Advocacy, a non-profit organization headquartered in Boulder, Colorado.
A talented writer, Mr. Abramowitz co-authors a column in the New York Law Journal titled "White Collar Crime." He also co-authored "Corporate Sentencing Under the Federal Guidelines" and contributed chapter three in the treatise, titled "White Collar Crime: Business and Regulatory Offenses." An elected fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, Mr. Abramowitz has been a member of the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, the Federal Bar Council and the New York Council of Defense Lawyers.
To prepare for his career, Mr. Abramowitz obtained a Bachelor of Arts at Brown University in 1961 and a J.D. degree at the New York University School of Law in 1964. After earning his law degree, he notably refined his skills as a clerk to the Honorable Inzer B. Wyatt, U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of New York from 1964 to 1966. Mr. Abramowitz has been admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York and the Supreme Court of the United States.
Highlighting his many achievements, Mr. Abramowitz has been recognized with the Milton S. Gould Award for Outstanding Advocacy from the Office of the Appellate Defender in 1999. He was subsequently presented with the Norman Ostrow Award for the defense of liberty and preservation of individual rights by the New York Council of Defense Lawyers in 2008. He has been honored by a multitude of leading law publications as well, including Chambers USA with a Top Ranking in White-Collar Crime and Government Investigations annually since 2003, Benchmark Litigation as Trial Lawyer of the Year and Thomas Reuter's Super Lawyers and has been quoted in The New York Times for his stellar work.
