Well regarded in the field of education, Dr. Kahle earned the distinguished title of a professor emeritus at the University of Oregon in 2016, having previously found success as the James Warsaw professor of marketing since 1983. During an earlier stage of his career, he served as an assistant professor of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1980 to 1983 and an assistant professor of the University of Nebraska from 1977 to 1978. With a plethora of knowledge at his disposal, Dr. Kahle has contributed as an editor for various books, including "Consumer Social Values," "Sports Marketing and the Psychology of Marketing Communication," "Communicating Sustainability for the Green Economy" and "Belief Systems, Religion, and Behavioral Economics: Marketing in Multicultural Environments," among many others. He is Editor-in-Chief of the forthcoming APA Handbook of Consumer Psychology.
Prior to embarking on his professional path, Dr. Kahle obtained a Master of Arts from the Pacific Lutheran University in 1974, and he later received a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Nebraska in 1977. Since retiring from the University of Oregon, Dr. Kahle has served as a professor with Pace University.
Active in his local community, Dr. Kahle was a member of the board of directors for the Eugene, Oregon's Organization for Economic Initiatives from 1988 to 1996. Additionally, he was a member of the Human Rights President's Council from 1980 until 1991 and the president of the commission on aging between 1987 and 1991. The chair of the membership board of the American Psychological Association in 2019, Dr. Kahle contributed as a council representative of the American Psychological Association from 2013 to 2019 and the president of the Society for Consumer Psychology between 1997 and 1998.
As a further testament to his success and longevity in the field, Dr. Kahle was presented with the Stotlar Award for Education from the Sport Marketing Association in 2014, the Lifetime Achievement Award from Consumer Behavior Special Interest Group of the American Marketing Association in 2013 and the National Research Service Award from the University of Michigan from 1978 to 1980. Likewise, he was selected for inclusion in the 72nd edition of Who's Who in America.
