Since coming of age, Ms. City has long been motivated to pursue a career in fashion design. However, she was involved in an accident that left her with permanent brain and nervous system damage, which necessitated her subsequent efforts to re-learn the basics of reading, writing, communication and basic motor functions. While convalescing with the help of a variety of therapeutic processes, she harbored a desire to express herself through art, and created a line of t-shirts. Within a year, she was able to feature her designs at New York Fashion Week In 2019, Ms. City established Jacqueline City Apparel, through which she offers affordable clothing for people of all genders and ages. She and her work have been featured in publications such as The Inquirer and Vogue as well as on ABC and NBC. Her designs will also be appearing at Paris Fashion Week in 2022.
When she began in the fashion industry, Ms. City lacked formal training and education in the field. However, during her career, she received certification in entrepreneurship and in rhetoric and public speaking from Harvard University. Most notably, her brand has been nominated for Metro Philly's Best Clothing Store. Ms. City has also won several art and charity contests.
Throughout the course of her career, Ms. City has attributed her professional success to her strength and ability to adapt and persevere despite the challenges she has faced. Looking toward the future, she plans to develop her business into an inspirational movement in order to help more people feel beautiful and included. Likewise, Ms. City would like to participate in more public speaking and mentorship roles for young women seeking inspiration and guidance.
