Dr. Trotter has been a certified equine interaction professional in mental health through the Certification Board for Equine Interaction Professionals since 2010 and a national certified counselor through the National Board for Certified Counselors since 2003. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Texas Woman's University from 2000 and a Doctor of Philosophy in counseling from the University of North Texas from 2006. Since 2018, she has worked as a crisis and trauma response specialist at Empathia, Inc.
Alongside this primary venture, since 2006, Dr. Trotter has flourished as the founding psychologist and chief executive officer of Kaleidoscope Behavioral Health and as the founder of Equine Partners in Counseling (EPIC) Enterprises. She oversees the business' daily operations, manages and supports clinicians and sees clients. A prolific author, Dr. Trotter has penned numerous publications, including "Equine-Assisted Counseling: Treating At-Risk Youth: A 12-Week Treatment Manual" in 2006, her dissertation, "The Efficacy of Equine-Assisted Group Counseling with At-Risk Children and Adolescents" in 2006, and "Harnessing the Power of Equine Assisted Counseling" in 2011. She also authored "A Comparative Study of the Efficacy of Group Equine-Assisted Counseling with At-Risk Children and Adolescents" in the Journal of Creativity in Mental Health in 2008.
Dr. Trotter is an active member of the Association for Play Therapy, where she served as a former president of its North Texas chapter, and the Cross Timbers Rotary Club. To wit, she has volunteered extensively with the Rotary Club and aided in raising $200,000 for local charities on behalf of the organization. Moreover, she participated on the board of trustees for Medical City Lewisville and as a disaster mental health volunteer for the American Red Cross. Looking toward the future, she intends to continue flourishing in her myriad roles with her businesses.
