MURRAY, KY, September 01, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Miranda Sanford-Terry, who professionally goes by Dr. Miranda Sue Terry, has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
A leader in her field, Dr. Terry has found success at Murray State University. Since 2015, Dr. Terry has served as program director of the public and community health program, was promoted to associate professor in 2019, and has served as the department chair since 2018. She previously flourished as an assistant professor and as the program coordinator of Health Science at Stephen F. Austin State University. Dr. Terry had a humble start to her career path in higher education. She served as a secretary and then as a graduate records specialist at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, while working toward her masters and doctorate degrees.
Prior to embarking on her career, Dr. Terry pursued an education at Eastern Illinois University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology in 2006. She continued her academic pursuits at the University of Illinois, obtaining a Master of Science in rehabilitation counseling in 2008 and a Doctor of Philosophy in 2013. She has served as a consultant to health departments, health coalitions, and higher education programs. She served as a board member to several organizations, such as Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) by the Lakes and Kentucky Public Health Association. In 2018, she was elected to the Murray Independent School District school board.
To remain aware of developments in her areas of interest, she has maintained her affiliation with such organizations as the American Public Health Association; Kentucky Public Health Association; Kentucky Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (now known as KY SHAPE); and the Society for Disability Studies. Among her numerous achievements, Dr. Terry considers the highlight of her career to have been the successes of her students and starting scholarships in honor of her father, Michael D. Terry, at his former high school and at Murray State University. He passed away from melanoma in 1994.
Dr. Terry has begun a new chapter in her career as an associate professor at Tennessee State University in the Department of Public Health, Health Administration, and Health Sciences in the Fall 2021.
