Specializing in energy, environment and natural resources law, Ms. Minkara is proud to have earned renown as an environmental advocate and leader in climate activism. She currently excels as an associate attorney for building electrification with the Sierra Club Environmental Law Program. In this capacity, she speaks on behalf of community groups and nonprofit organizations in matters relating to energy and environmental concerns and takes part in federal advocacy on administrative standards and energy regulations. More specifically, Ms. Minkara focuses on de-carbonization work and building electrification.
Ms. Minkara initially obtained a Bachelor of Science in psychology, summa cum laude, with a minor in applied statistics and data analysis from Kennesaw State University in 2017. During this time, she contributed as a research and teaching assistant in the subfield of physiological psychology. Before graduating from college, she interned with the United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Georgia in the civil rights enforcement division. Fueled by her passion for community organizing and climate action, she subsequently earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence, with honors, from the Emory University School of Law in 2020. While completing her legal education, Ms. Minkara served as the president of the Student Bar Association and the Emory Law Chapter of the National Lawyers Guild.
Ms. Minkara garnered experience through legal internships with the Southeast Regional Solicitor's Office of the United States Department of the Interior and the Southern Environmental Law Center. Furthermore, she established herself as a student attorney at Emory's Turner Environmental Law Clinic. After gaining licensure to practice law from the District of Columbia Bar, she began her professional career through a legal fellowship with the Sierra Club before accepting a full-time position as an associate attorney for the Beyond Coal Campaign. Dedicated to the communities she represents, Ms. Minkara has participated as a canvasser with the Human Rights Campaign, a poll watcher for the Democratic Party of Georgia, a grassroots volunteer organizer for the Sierra Club, a Citizen Lobbyist for the Georgia Water Coalition, and a Hub Coordinator for the Sunrise Movement.
For her accomplishments in law school, Ms. Minkara is honored to have been a recipient of the Most Outstanding Third Year Student Award and the Robert Steinhardt Commencement Award for Professionalism and Ethics from Emory University. Moreover, she was recognized as a Graduating Woman of Excellence from the Center for Women at Emory University and is proud to have received both a public interest grant and a sustainability grant to fund her work both on- and off-campus. Looking toward the future, Ms. Minkara aims to continue along her career path with the Sierra Club as an advocate for equitable climate action.
