From a young age, Ms. Brim has handled all of the event planning for family occasions. She eventually decided to turn her talents into a lucrative business. Ms. Brim additionally earned a bachelor's degree in healthcare administration from Northern Illinois University and a Master of Business Administration from Argosy.
After experiencing several losses, Ms. Brim decided to attend several uplifting events including a Sarah Roberts conference, an event hosted by Bishop TD Jakes and multiple women's networking events. Attending these events helped her to realign her goals and connect with people who would help her work toward success. Ms. Brim believes that, when executed properly, events can be a source of healing, networking and other important opportunities.
Ms. Brim currently excels as the chief executive officer of Darra Michelle Events & Consulting, as well as a lifestyle coach and mentor. With her event planning business, she curates corporate, private and social events. She also works as a project manager, planning alot of community events such as seminars and workshops. Ms. Brim also recently added design services to her business and collaborates closely with other designers throughout the Chicago area.
Civically, Ms. Brim co-leads a four-year-old nonprofit organization, Focus Fairies Mentoring, serving adolescent and preteen girls in marginalized communities affected by violence. The aforementioned organization provides young girls with the skills needed to transition through life successfully.
As a respected voice in her field, Ms. Brim co-authored an anthology book titled "Do It Scared: From Stagnant to Success." In the book, she talks about how to achieve one's goals despite adversity and fear. She utilized meditation and prayer to overcome her own personal challenges and find success in her career. For her efforts as an entrepreneur and business woman, she has gained much recognition over the years. Ms. Brim was previously invited as keynote speaker at Lincoln Challenge Academy and she was featured in an article for Voyage Chicago.
In order to further bolster her skills in her field, Ms. Brim is currently pursuing a doctorate in nonprofit work and entrepreneurship at Governors State University. Throughout her career, she has attributed her professional success to her support system and her willingness to learn. She also accepts as many opportunities and projects as she can, and she invests in herself by focusing on her goals. Looking toward the future, Ms. Brim plans to step into a full-time executive director role at her mentoring organization while developing a team to support her event planning business with the goal of acquiring a venue space to rent out to clients.
