Dr. Ye is a full professor of orthodontics in the school of dentistry at the University of Queensland (UQ) in Australia. Becoming a faculty member in 2015, he has served admirably as the lead of orthodontics and director of research. Dr. Ye also had the opportunity to serve as the head of regenerative dentistry and co-director of the UQ-WMU Conjoint Institute of Stem Cells and Tissue Engineering in both China and Australia.
Teaching and researching in the areas of the cellular and molecular mechanisms of tooth movement, stem cells and the reaction of tissue to foreign bodies, Dr. Ye formerly spent five years at James Cook University in Australia, where he rose from a lecturer to a professor of orthodontics between 2010 and 2015. Additionally, he served as the head of the Craniofacial Laboratory and as the head of the department of orthodontics. While employed at UQ, he was selected by Massachusetts General Hospital at Harvard University during the 2019 to 2020 academic school year as a visiting professor and fellow of oral maxillofacial surgery, which was a considerable honor. Among other accomplishments, Dr. Ye has also been invited to speak in more than 20 countries covering orthodontics, regenerative dentistry, and evidence-based medicine topics.
Some of Dr. Ye's most significant research has included studies on dental pulp stem cells, which he was able to leverage toward the treatment of spinal cord injuries, bone defects, aging and more. Becoming widely published in numerous peer-reviewed high-impact journals as a result of his research efforts, he has also contributed chapters to several medical books and has been active in numerous editorial capacities. Dr. Ye has been active on the editorial board of Bioactive Materials since 2019, Current Medical Science since 2019 and Nano Research since 2020, and as a lead guest editor of Stem Cells International since 2017, Frontiers in Cells and Developmental Biology and Coatings since 2020. Furthermore, he has been serving in various associate editor or guest editor roles for Journal of World Federation of Orthodontists, Cells, Frontiers in Pharmacology, Journal of Investigative and Clinical Dentistry, Frontiers in Physiology, and Frontiers in Dental Medicine since 2012.
Educated in his home country of China, Dr. Ye received a Bachelor of Medicine in stomatology and dentistry at West China College of Stomatology, Sichuan University, in 2004. Shortly thereafter, he received a Master of Science in orthodontics evidence-based medicine on campus in 2006. He subsequently completed residency training in orthodontics at the University Medical Center of Groningen (UMCG) between 2006 and 2008, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy in orthodontics at West Chine College of Stomatology in 2009 and a second Doctor of Philosophy in stem cells and tissue engineering at UMCG in 2013. Additionally, Dr. Ye received a graduate certificate in higher education through James Cook University in Australia in 2014. He has been board certified in orthodontics through the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in the U.K. since 2012.
Dr. Ye is affiliated as a professional member of the Australian Dental Association, the Italian Society of Orthodontics, the International Association for Dental Research, and the Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society. Furthermore, he is a reviewer of the Cochrane Collaboration Oral Health Group. Dr. Ye is also an elected fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine (FRSM), the International College of Dentists (FICD) and the World Federation of Orthodontists (FWFO). Supporting his career, he has been active on numerous educational and organizational committees in Australia, China, Spain and other parts of the world. He is also an executive board member of the Australasian Begg Society of Orthodontists, and a past president of the Asia Pacific of Orthodontic-Periodontal Forum.
