After training to become a firefighter at the Monmouth County Fire Academy, Mr. Pollen began his career as a police officer with the Savannah Chatham Metropolitan Police. Since 2016, he further flourished with the Clermont Police Department as a field training officer and intelligence liaison officer. In the years since, he has been promoted to corporal and works in the community service division as well as the Mobile Crisis Unit and as the Hostage Negotiations Team leader. With the aforementioned unit, Mr. Pollen specializes in handling potentially volatile situations.
Mr. Pollen is also a member of the Behavioral Threat Assessment Management Team of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, for which he evaluates threatening situations. In his career, he has taken a particular interest in mental health advocacy within the police force, focusing on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and de-escalation procedures. As a qualified professional, Mr. Pollen recently obtained an Associate of Science in criminal justice and correction from Eastern Gateway College.
For his exemplary professional efforts, Mr. Pollen has received many accolades. He was notably presented with the Lifesaving Award from the Clermont Police Department for his skills in hostage negotiations. Mr. Pollen also accepted the Outstanding Law Enforcement Officer of Lake County Award from the Rotary Club of Leesburg.
Over the years, Mr. Pollen has been incredibly proud of his work with veterans and first responders through the Tactical Resiliency Process (TRP). The program helps people deal with PTSD, and has a 98.4% success rate. Mr. Pollen has attributed his professional success in his career to his wife's continued support, as he is able to gain valuable insight about mental health advocacy from her because she is a therapist. Looking toward the future, he plans to expand the Mobile Crisis Unit to other departments while also working to de-stigmatize PTSD within the police force. Mr. Pollen would also like to pursue further education in order to bolster his qualifications and help more people.
