He began his career as a judicial law clerk for the Supreme Court of Canada for the Right Honorable Beverley McLachlin, after which he served as a partner at Sugden, McFee & Roos LLP, and as counsel and partner at Dentons. Presently, Mr. Dennis excels as a partner at McEwan Cooper Dennis LLP. Throughout the course of his career, he has gained an expertise for taking complex legal problems and making them comprehensible to various audiences.
At his current firm, Mr. Dennis is responsible for a large range of clients locally, nationally and globally. In practice, he has participated in hearings, depositions and has worked closely with expert witnesses. In addition to his primary duties, he also serves as a guest lecturer on professionalism and ethics, and as an instructor in trial advocacy at the University of British Columbia. Throughout the course of his career, Mr. Dennis is most proud to have worked on a large pro bono case for a disabled indigenous person who was living in difficult circumstances. The litigation process, while lengthy, was ultimately resolved in a favorable settlement for the client.
As a respected voice in his field, Mr. Dennis has contributed articles to numerous professional journals in the field. Most notably, one of his papers was cited by the Supreme Court of Canada, and he has been published in class actions, civil litigation practice and continuing legal education papers. Likewise, Mr. Dennis authored a chapter in "Business Disputes."
For his efforts over the years, Mr. Dennis was named as the Lawyer of Year in Administrative and Public Law by the Best Lawyers in Canada, and has ranked on Chambers Global and Chambers Canada in dispute resolution and benchmark litigation. In 2014, he was appointed to the Queen's Counsel.
