Dr. Kay obtained a bachelor's degree in sociology in 2007 and followed this achievement with a master's degree in counseling in 2009 at Norfolk State University, Virginia. With Norfolk State, she gained valuable experience as an assistant field instructor for graduates and undergraduates in the fields of education, counseling and social work. Dr. Kay continued her education with a PhD in counselor education and supervision from Walden University in Minneapolis. In addition, she served her country as a chaplain assistant with the United States Army Reserve from 2001 to 2009, providing crisis intervention, counseling, education and safety planning to individuals and families.
Dr. Kay gained important experience from 2009 to 2012 as a substance abuse intern, clinician and training specialist with the Chesapeake Community Service Board and Norfolk Community Service Board, in which she supervised support staff, training, assigning and evaluating work, counseling and disciplining as necessary. She also organized and implemented pre-vocational training services for members, families, community groups and professionals and provided clinical supervision to line staff, students and volunteers. As program director with Transitions Therapeutic Counseling Services LLC Dr. Kay's responsibilities included overall coordination, administration and management of substance abuse, mental health, anger management and parenting services.
As chief executive officer and executive director of Reese Family Services LLC in Newport News, Virginia, since 2014, Dr. Kay has provided sponsored residential services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, providing a safe and nurturing environment through collaboration with the individual's family, friends, advocates and individuals within the community.
Dr. Kay is licensed as a professional counselor, approved clinical supervisor, certified substance abuse counselor and substance abuse treatment practitioner and is a member of the American Counseling Association. She was motivated to enter the counseling field because her father suffered from substance abuse and has found administration and entrepreneurship as her niche areas. She enjoys starting businesses from the ground up.
Besides her service in family counseling, Dr. Kay has also found much success in real estate. She prospered as an associate broker with Century 21 in Norfolk, Virginia, from 2016 to 2021, as a listing and selling agent and commercial specialist, and as a Hampton Roads Realtors Association Bronze Award winner for gross commissions of $100,000. Dr. Kay currently provides superior service as principal broker and owner of Reese Legacy Group LLC.
In the coming years, Dr. Kay would like to be less directly involved with her counseling business while maintaining a supervisory role. She also intends to make more investments in real estate and other entrepreneurial opportunities, adding a few components to her current business and watching it grow to become more profitable.
