Dr. Jackson obtained a Bachelor of Arts in psychology, with a minor in zoology, from Texas Tech University in 1966, after which he concluded his education with a Doctor of Philosophy in psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1972. While studying for his doctorate, he was employed as a research assistant and a National Institutes of Health Predoctoral Research Fellow with the University of Wisconsin Department of Psychology. From 1972 to 1985 Dr. Jackson was employed by the University of Wisconsin Department of Neurophysiology progressing from National Institutes of Health Postdoctoral Research Fellow to assistant scientist and project assistant. In this capacity, he managed research budgets, designed, analyzed and published experiments and trained technical staff.
Between 1985 and 1997, Dr. Jackson served his community as an alcoholism and drug abuse counselor for the DePaul/Madison Family Institute and the Stoughton Hospital Addiction Rehabilitation and Education Program. His responsibilities included conducting group and family therapy with chemically dependent patients and affected family members. Likewise, Dr. Jackson was charged with treating anxiety, mood and personality disorders and counseling adult survivors of child abuse.
From 1997 to 2018, Mr. Jackson flourished in private practice with the Prairie Counseling Services of Wisconsin as a psychotherapist and counselor, through which he specialized in alcohol and other drug abuse therapies. Between 2002 and 2010, he also served as a behavioral health counselor with Fort Atkinson Memorial Health Services. Eminently qualified in his field, he was certified by the state of Wisconsin as an alcoholism and drug counselor, and by the American Counseling Association. He is presently with BetterHelp, a professional, telebehavioral health group. Since 1968, Mr. Jackson has published 14 papers in leading neurological and psychological journals. He is a former consulting editor of Psychophysiology, a monthly peer-reviewed scientific journal published via the Society for Psychophysiological Research.
