HORSESHOE BAY, TX, September 14, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Mary Wright has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Coaching gymnastics for over five decades, Ms. Wright sold her gym in 2014 and co-founded Masters of Sport the following year in 2015. Shifting her attention to providing educational support to coaches through the U.S. and internationally, she strongly believes in ensuring that gymnastics coaches receive such necessary exposure. As an extension of her work, Ms. Wright has begun working on writing her first book about gymnastics, which will serve as a tool to help coaches and gymnasts gain a better understanding of what it takes to be an elite-level athlete coach.
Ms. Wright began training competitively in gymnastics at the age of 11, and started coaching at age 15. Following in the footsteps of her mother, a talented gymnast in her own right, she began coaching and led many of her gymnasts to win state and national titles. By the time she turned 20, she had also formed her own club. Developing an incredible ability to highlight the abilities of her athletes, Ms. Wright has taught many gymnasts how to fine tune their routines and execute with precision. Under her tutelage, more than 132 athletes have received college scholarships and 11 of her athletes have gone on to become USA, (8), Canadian (2), and NZ (1) Olympians.
Grateful for her achievements and experience as both an athlete and coach, Ms. Wright has learned much about herself. She especially gives credit to her former students for making her the person she is today. Through her students, she has developed into a compassionate, patient and trusting individual. A native of New Zealand, Ms Wright studied Journalism at Golden West College in California.
A dedicated civic advocate, Ms. Wright has enjoyed several non-paid positions as a volunteer coach and choreographer at the University of Utah for 10 years. She also taught routines on a volunteer basis to elite U.S. athletes and coaches and offered a free program at Olympus for children with special needs. Outside of her work in the field, Ms. Wright has lent her time at a local pet shelter and has been involved in canine rescue, care and adoption work.
Ms. Wright was elected to the New Zealand Order of Merit by the Queen of England in 2018. Her parents, brother, cousin and great-grandfather also received the same recognition. Ms. Wright has been nominated several times for Choreographer of the Year and Coach of the Year and in 2020 was inducted into the USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame.
