RICHMOND, VA, September 15, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Joan Bellefield Davis has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Driven to make a difference in the field of law, Ms. Davis received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Government in 1991 and a Master's Degree in the Administration of Justice in 1994 from Virginia Commonwealth University. Prior to law school, she worked as a research assistant with the Supreme Court of Virginia, where she assisted the director of dispute resolution services gathering statistics on the effectiveness of mandatory alternative dispute resolution techniques in Virginia's courts. During her time in this position, she was certified as a family mediator and subsequently was employed as a family mediator with the Mediation Council of Virginia. Just after the turn of the century, she completed coursework towards a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Barry University while simultaneously attending classes at Stetson College of Law and the University of Richmond. Currently, she is a candidate for a LLM Degree in Fashion Law at Luiss Guido Carli School of Law in Rome, Italy with completion expected in January of 2022.
After graduating from law school, Ms. Davis gained valuable expertise as a law clerk for the Honorable Harry L. Carrico, former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Virginia, and an attorney on staff for the Chief Staff Attorney's Office. Joan was a managing partner of Schroder Davis Law Firm from 2015 to 2017. Backed by her considerable skill set, she excels today in an of counsel position with the successor firm, Schroder Brooks Law Firm, PLC. She focuses her entertainment and intellectual property practice on fashion law. In this role, she represents clients with domestic and international trademark matters, entertainment and art matters including contract reviews for models and the parents of child models, setting up business entities, commission art agreements, etc. In 2019, Joan was licensed to practice law in New York.
Throughout her career, Ms. Davis has achieved much. In addition to being the first person to create a continuing legal education seminar on fashion law in Virginia, she taught the seminar in Vienna, Austria. She has presented similar fashion law programs for the American Bar Association's Entertainment and Sports Forums, The International School of Art in Florence, Italy, the Knowit Conference on Artificial Intelligence, and ALT Legal. Ms. Davis co-authored the novel "Feng Shui Love," a standout romantic comedy whose reviewers have stated, "Feng Shui Love is a Fun Shui Read!" To remain aware of changes in the field, she aligns herself with the New York State Bar Association, the Fourth Circuit Bar, the Virginia Bar Association, the American Bar Association's Entertainment and Sports Forums, and the Federal Bar.
Outside of her primary work endeavors, Ms. Davis serves as a volunteer attorney with the Fashion Law Institute, an advisor with the International Centre for Intellectual Property Law in India, a family council member with George Mason University, and is an academic advisor with the Chinese Swiss Law Review. Likewise, she has served on committees with the Virginia Bar Association. The VSB's Lawyers for the Arts Committee inspired her to develop "Coffee with an Art Lawyer" an artist's pro bono program. In light of her outstanding body of work, she has received several Client Choice Awards through AVVO and authored "Always in Style" for Virginia Lawyer Volume 67 in 2019. Looking ahead, Ms. Davis intends to continue practicing law, expanding her fashion law practice internationally and mentoring younger attorneys in the field.
