Dr. Redfield Shakoor benefits from the accumulated experience of more than four decades of excellence in the field of humanitarianism and education. She helped establish, teach, and achieve accreditation for the private K-12 school World Life Institute Education Center. As the program director for the Project Life War Orphans Rehabilitation Program from the same center she directed and accompanied a team of volunteers to travel, select and host orphans of war from overseas to their Waterport location for three months of rehabilitation 1997-2014. Her particular focus was travel to Bosnia and the Caucasus of Russia helping arrange US visitor visas for the orphans. She voluntarily taught English daily to 136 orphans of war brought by Project Life to upstate New York from Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Bosnia, and the Caucasus of Russia. She helped a voluntary team to implement health, dental and therapeutic services for the orphans while they stayed in upstate New York. In addition to her primary vocation, Dr. Redfield Shakoor teaches and is a consultant for World Life Institute's Global Nuclear Awareness program www.worldlife.institute through which she helps coordinate a curriculum focused on a range of issues, including radioactive contamination, and surviving nuclear war.
Before venturing onto her vocational path, Dr. Redfield Shakoor sought an education at Malone University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in both Spanish and English in 1973. Continuing her education, she attended the State University of New York at Albany in 1976 and completed a Master of Science in Bilingual Education. Dr. Redfield Shakoor would return to her academic efforts in 2014 at the Niagara University Graduate School, where she earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Leadership and Policy in 2017.
Dr. Redfield Shakoor has taught courses and webinars for Global Nuclear Awareness including "The Waters of the World: Global Nuclear Concerns," "American Nuclear Landscape: Is Our Country Prepared for a Nuclear Crisis?" and "Hiroshima and Nagasaki: Never Forgotten." In 2009 she co-authored a chapter in Empowering Women through Literacy highlighting her lifelong career teaching English to agricultural workers. In 2021, Dr. Redfield Shakoor received Orleans Niagara BOCES Employee of the Year Award. She was recognized for her teaching, coordination of adult education, and service to agricultural workers at the World Life Institute Education Center for more than twenty years. In 2017 she published her dissertation on Radiation Emergency Management. To commemorate her accomplishments, she has been bestowed with such accolades as the Faith in Action Award by the Greater Rochester Community of Churches Faith in Action Network. Looking toward the future, Dr. Redfield Shakoor hopes to collaborate with universities and other institutions in academia to promote a more mainstream awareness of the dangers of radiological disasters and nuclear war.
Dr. Redfield Shakoor owes her vision, inspiration, and lifelong successes to Marquis Who's Who recipient, Dr. Asaf Durakovic M.D. Ph.D., D.se F.A.C.P. (1940-2020).
