Prior to becoming a Managing Partner at CKO CPAs & Advisors, Mr. Omoruyi had acquired years of experience as a regional and national tax expert. He initially pursued a formal education at the University of Benin in Nigeria, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 2007. Soon thereafter, he became a Certified Public Accountant in the state of Texas and went on to earn a Master of Business Taxation from the Marshall Business School at the University of Southern California in 2016.
Mr. Omoruyi began his career as a staff accountant at Ascot Flowlines Limited, a role in which he flourished and gained the foundational skills he needed to thrive when he transitioned to Schlumberger into a Tax Analyst position. A trusted voice in the field, he also serves as an adjunct professor of accounting, previously taught at Houston Community College and now serving at Lone Star College.
Specializing in tax planning, accounting services and tax compliance, Mr. Omoruyi is an IRS Enrolled Agent. He established ZANDA Tax in 2019 with the goal of making financial literacy more accessible. He has been the Managing Partner of CKO CPAs & Advisors since 2020. For his wealth of expertise in his field, he has been distinguished among the Top 40 Under 40 Accountants by CPA Practice Advisor. Additionally, he is alumnus of the AICPA Leadership Academy.
To remain aware of advancements in his field, Mr. Omoruyi is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Houston CPA Society, and a member of the Board of Directors for the Texas Society of CPAs. Likewise, he has been appointed a trusted member of the Accounting Advisory Board at Lone Star College since 2017. Most recently, Mr. Omoruyi has been elected as the chairman of the Houston CPA Society Tax Expo Committee, having thrived as the vice chairman since 2019.
Mr. Omoruyi attributes his success to his hardworking mother and the grace of God. Though his career is teeming with highlights, he is incredibly gratified by witnessing his clients become happy after having received his help. In the future, he plans to continue growing in his professional organizations and hopes to inspire other immigrants like himself. Mr. Omoruyi hopes to see an increase in the representation of African Americans working as Certified Public Accountants in America.
