Dedicated to helping others, Dr. Weathers has been especially inspired to apply his background in psychology to recovery coaching due to his own personal learning experiences in successfully recovering from mid-life addiction.
Beyond his more recent career endeavors, Dr. Weathers has formerly served as professor of psychology at Pepperdine University; California State University, San Bernardino; University of New Hampshire; Argosy University; and California Southern University. He has published numerous articles in a broad cross-section of respected professional reference books, journals, and edited volumes. Most recently, Dr. Weathers co-authored two volumes of the "Recovery Resilience Training Workbook" for a lay readership and mental health professionals, respectively.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Weathers pursued an education at Fresno Pacific College, from which he graduated as valedictorian with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and religious studies in 1979. In 1983, he obtained both a Master of Arts in psychology and a Master of Arts in religious studies from Fuller Theological Seminary. Following these accomplishments, Dr. Weathers earned a Doctor of Philosophy in clinical psychology from Fuller Graduate School of Psychology in 1985.
Among his numerous career achievements, Dr. Weathers was presented with the Charles and Harriet Luckman Distinguished Teaching Fellowship, the highest university honor given to teaching faculty at Pepperdine University. He has helped to develop nationally accredited addiction studies certificate and mindfulness-based clinical training coursework in local universities, as well as directing "Your Vitality Project," an online addiction education initiative, and remains active within the National Association for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors and the California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals. Looking toward the future, Dr. Weathers intends to continue working with individuals and families, to aid them in sustaining recovery from addiction, and, through his ongoing writing and public speaking, to leave a lasting legacy that might have a continuing, positive impact on others.
