Now retired, Ms. Gallup spent 48 years as an information technology consultant between 1964 and 2012. She also worked full-time in a variety of capacities in the governmental, educational and private sectors, beginning in 1963 for Documentation, Inc., in Bethesda, Maryland. An expert in scientific information processing, her talents earned her positions with the Naval Ship Research and Development in Maryland as a technical documental analyst and with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as an operations research analyst in Washington, D.C., early on in her career. She later gained expertise with Computer Sciences Corporation as a senior systems analyst in Virginia and with several institutions, including Dartmouth College in New Hampshire as director of library automation and the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia in several leading information technology roles. Among other positions, Ms. Gallup taught as an adjunct professor at Drexel University in Philadelphia.
Ms. Gallup's diverse positions made her career both challenging and rewarding. She especially enjoyed her contributions to the government sector. She also enjoyed developing and implementing the university library catalog at Dartmouth College. Besides her full-time work, Ms. Gallup also loves to write, notably co-authoring "Information Retrieval" with F.W. Lancaster, as well as several industry-related scholarly articles and other professional publications.
Ms. Gallup holds a Bachelor of Science in mathematics and physics from the University of Maryland and a Master of Public Administration in information science from American University. To give back to her community, Ms. Gallup has spent the last decade volunteering with the Freedom Trail Foundation. She also spent four years as an office administrator for the Neighborhood Association of the Back Bay between 2012 and 2016, shortly after retiring from her field. She continues to remain active with various other local civic groups.
Supporting Ms. Gallup's profession has been membership with several professional organizations. Namely, she had the chance to chair the special interest group of the Technology Information Society of the American Society of Information Science on two occasions and served on the organization's users' online interaction group. Additionally, Ms. Gallup has been a longstanding member of the American Library Association and the Association of Computing Machinery and is a member and former task force member of the National Academy of Sciences.
In 1974, Ms. Gallup was recognized with a Best Information Science Book Award. A celebrated Marquis listee, she has been cited in the first edition of Who's Who in the Media and Communication and the 16th and 18th editions of Who's Who of American Women.
